Subject: Penelope Watson

Dear All,

I am extremely sad and shocked to have received the news that our colleague Penelope Watson, passed away at the end of December after her health took a turn just before Christmas.

Many of you would know Penelope because of her long-standing contribution to the law of Torts and Remedies and her career which spanned working at the University of Wollongong, University of New South Wales, and at Macquarie Law School.

In addition, Penelope was well known for her outstanding commitment to teaching, which has been acknowledged in the form of national awards such as a Carrick Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning and a LexisNexis-ALTA Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Teaching of Law, as well as a Macquarie Learning and Teaching Fellowship. She was loved by her students, and was one of the nicest people I met when I joined Macquarie in 2015.

The Dean of Art’s at Macquarie University said:  Penelope's great legacy is the influence she has had on so many lives as an excellent teacher and mentor and she will be greatly missed by many.

The family held a private cremation ceremony and will be organising a memorial service for early March.

Details about her accomplishments can be found here:
